Bold weather needs a bold design

MetService.com introduced the first major design refresh to it’s website in nearly four years. A bold colour palette, clean graphics and iconic imagery were chosen to create a vibrant contemporary feel for the newly added Australian section.

Feature images were colour coded to reflect the type of weather happening that day, as were the daily icon bar backgrounds to making it quite easy to scan as well as being visually impactful.

HIGHLIGHTS

Simplifying complex data.

The number one design goal is to make complex things easy to understand. This interactive chart allows visitors to drag across 48-hours of observation data and computer generated forecasts. Simple icons, clear typography and smart colour coding all combine to make a complicated weather story easy to read in a glance.

Vibrant Design

The design interface for the new Australian section introduced a new impactful and purposeful colour palette.

Visual and Iconic

Unique treatment of icons and local area imagery to tell a much more interesting weather story.

Complex Data Made Simple

Weather charts and graphs can get pretty complex when trying to give each audience type the items they need. We managed to keep it iconic and simple.

Intuitive interactions

To keep the data display simple, yet still give a maximum amount of information, intuitive, user-controlled scrolling modules were created.
